Does Your Website Need a Refresh?

Does Your Website Need a Refresh?

Once upon a time, you created a website and it rocked!  But just like people, even great websites can use a pick-me-up from time to time.  Whether it’s a full redesign or a simple tweak, there are ways to tell if your website needs a little love in order to return to its high performing glory days.

Slow Loader

Much like us, your website can get sluggish and slower as time goes on.  Slow loading websites can be caused by a number of factors such as broken external links, too many large images, or old school building techniques which could be causing a bottleneck.

As a quick “try this at home” test, if your website takes more than three seconds to load, you have a slow loader on your hands.  Why does that matter?  Well, slow loading websites have a higher drop-off rate with customers.  In today’s fast-moving world, customers want to get products, services, and information quickly and don’t want to wait.  If your site is slow to load but the next site that appears in search results isn’t, odds are you’ll lose out on gaining that new customer.

Yadda, Yadda, Yadda

If your website has been around for a while, chances are you have pages on your site that are weighing you down.  While that competitive analysis or product safety information you put up in 2013 was critical at the time, it’s just excess baggage and a lot of unnecessary yadda, yadda, yadda now.

Do a bit of housekeeping —- review your site and identify pages that simply no longer add value to your business.   Removing those pages and cleaning up your navigation will have an impact on your load times and improve your search rankings because Google will be able to focus on the content that is adding value.

Conversion Drop-off

Perhaps there was a time when you saw growth in your conversion numbers but now you are seeing a steady decline —- if so, then you might be prime for a refresh, my friend.  This change can be due to a number of factors such as clunky navigation, unintuitive calls-to-action, or underperforming keywords.

Brand New You

Another call for a website refresh is a rebranding.  Perhaps you’ve updated your logo, services offerings, or you have a new spokesperson.

A brand refresh is a great reason to give your website a new look.  Giving your website a refresh will ensure that your offline marketing matches the look and feel of your online marketing, creating a consistency in brand recognition for your target audience and consumer base.
