Copywriting Tips for Your Business

Copywriting Tips for Your Business

As you’re well aware, content is still king online — and if you want to be found online, you need great content.  However, too many companies try and jump into the content game, but their copywriting skills are just missing the mark.

Creating content for the sake of just having content won’t yield you the results you want.  To help you up your copywriting game, we’ve pulled together a few tips to help you knock it out of the park!

Business Copywriting Tips for Success

Tip Number One: Relax, have fun, and remember you’re talking to other humans!  No one wants to engage with robots all day long…so why are you writing like one?

We’re not suggesting you toss grammar to the wind and break out into your best Valley Girl slang —- no, no, no, we don’t want to upset anyone’s former High School English Teacher.  We are, however, suggesting that you write in the same manner in which you speak.  Relax, show some emotion, be a bit more casual, be authentic, and be engaging as you pitch your products or share your information.

Tip Number Two: Okay, so we lied before…well, sort of.  While no one wants to talk to robots all day, robots will be ‘talking’ to you.  Remember that the search engine crawlers will also be ‘reading’ what you write, so you need to write for them as well.

Incorporate keywords and phrases in both your copy and your headers.  This will help the search engine crawlers find you and know when to serve your content to consumers who are searching for what you’re writing about.

Tip Number Three: Lots of copy can be overwhelming, so be concise and break things up with paragraphs, section headers, bullets, and images.  People will skim your copy (sorry, but it’s true), so make it skimmable.  If they skim and like it, odds are they’ll read more deeply and perhaps even share it via social media.

Tip Number Four: Put your customers first!  Unless you’re engrossed in your latest copy of People Magazine or a really great biography, odds are you want to read something that you can relate to personally…and guess what?  So do your readers!

Yes, pitch your company and your products, but do it in a way that makes it personal and important to your potential customers.  Ask yourself “what’s in it for me” and write from that angle.

Tip Number Five: To be engaging, tell a story.  Imagine how much more effective it will be if you tell a story that captures the customer’s attention and with engages them versus just pitching something at them.
